WHO WE ARE

The Little Egg Harbor Environmental Commission was established by Little Egg Harbor Administrative Code Chapter 37 under the authority of New Jersey State Law (N.J.S.A. 40:56A-1 et seq.). It is a team of 9 appointed LEHT citizens committed to the protection, development and use of natural resources, located within the Township.

The Commission is all volunteer and members serve for terms of 3 years.

WHAT WE DO

Preserving our Environment

The Environmental Commission is tasked by law with:

Formulating recommendations to the Township Committee about open space preservation, water resources management, air pollution control, solid waste management, noise control, soil and landscaping protection, environmental appearance, marine resources and the protection of flora and fauna.

Initiating studies concerning open space preservation, water resources management, air pollution control, solid waste management, noise control, soil and landscaping protection, environmental appearance, marine resources and the protection of flora and fauna.

Keeping an index of all open areas, publicly or privately owned, including open marshlands, swamps and other wetlands, and make recommendations to the Planning Board and the governing body concerning the same.

Coordinating activities of unofficial bodies organized for similar purposes and advertise, prepare, print and distribute books, maps, charts, plans and pamphlets, and promote public education programs which support recycling and the preservation of our environment.

Acquiring property in the name of the Little Egg Harbor (subject to approval of the Township) for any of its purposes and administer it for the same.

Coordinate with the Green Team Advisory Committee to support and maintain the Little Egg Harbor Township’s participation in the Sustainable Jersey program.
