CERTIFIED MUNICIPAL FINANCE OFFICER

Little Egg Harbor Township is seeking qualified applicant for the position of Certified Municipal Finance Officer (CMFO).
POSITION SUMMARY
The CMFO will be responsible for all aspects of municipal financial management, including budget preparation, administration and monitoring, financial reporting, cash management, debt administration, payroll oversight and ensuring compliance with state and local financial regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare and administer the annual municipal budget and capital improvement program
- Maintain comprehensive accounting records and prepare financial reports
- Oversee accounts payable, receivable and payroll functions
- Coordinate annual audit with independent auditors
- Manage cash flow, investments and debt service
- Ensure compliance with all state financial reporting requirements
- Administer grants and prepare required financial reports
- Advise Township Administrator and Governing Body on financial matters
- Supervise Finance Department staff
REQUIREMENTS
- Education: Possession of, at a minimum:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited college or university.
- New Jersey Certified Municipal Finance Officer (CMFO) certification or ability to obtain within one year of appointment.
or - Associates Degree in Accounting or Registered Municipal Accountant (RMA) certification.
- Experience: Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in municipal finance or public accounting.
- License: Valid New Jersey driver’s license
QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of New Jersey municipal finance laws, regulations, and procedures.
- Experience with Edmunds Municipal Software Systems.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work with elected officials, department heads, and professional staff.
- NJ Qualified Purchasing Agent (QPA) certification a plus.
COMPENSATION
Salary range: $80,000 to $140,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Excellent benefits package including health insurance, pension, and paid time off.
