2012 MOSQUITO SPRAYING

The Township of Little Egg Harbor will be spraying for adult mosquitoes, duing the months of May through early October.  The Department of Public Works will be using ultra low volume (ULV) truck-mounted sprayers to control adult mosquitoes during evening and early morning hours.  To help prevent mosquitoes from breeding, homeowners are advised to inspect their yards  and destroy or dispose of tin cans, old tires, buckets, unused plastic swimming pools or other containers that collect and can hold standing water, which promotes breeding.  Residents should also repair leaky pipes and maintain roof gutters, as these are all potential mosquito breeding locations.  The best protection from mosquito transmitted diseases, such as West Nile Virus, is avoiding exposure to mosquito bites.  Experts suggest wearing long-sleeved clothing when in a known mosquito infested area.  Inspect repellents containing DEET should also be applied sparingly to clothing and skin.
REMEMBER the five D's:  drainage, DEET, dress, dusk and dawn.
Any resident experiencing a mosquito nuisance should contact the
Department of Public Works at 609-296-3600 or 609-618-7716.
