Department of Public Works, Diesel Mechanic – Full Time

Full-time position. Candidate must meet NJDOP requirements. Under direction, applicant must be able to perform various tasks including but not limited to maintenance and repair of diesel engines in motor vehicles, hydraulic systems, electrical and multiplexing systems, air brake systems, construction equipment and other related duties as required. Candidate should have knowledge of modern diesel engines and equipment and their operations, knowledge of causes for motor failure, and the steps necessary to correct the condition. Ability to obtain, store, record, safeguard, and properly use equipment, materials, and supplies. Keep records, analyze mechanical,, electrical, and hydraulic problems, do mechanical work, learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office or related units. Candidate must possess one (1) year of training in diesel engine repair at an accredited community college or vocational school and at least two (2) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of diesel engines and equipment, and a valid New Jersey Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) for the class and type of vehicles being operated.
